ABOUT SHELL TAPUP
-
What is the vision of Shell TapUp?
We believe that fuel delivery is the new refuelling. We call it fuelling as a service. So that your employees do not have to spend time on this.
In the future, many different types of fuels will be used, which will become more sustainable. Because we deliver the fuel, we can switch quickly and help you with a sustainable switch. Hence our promise: Shell TapUp, fuelling impact!
-
What does TapUp mean?
The name TapUp has its origin from when we served the consumer market. We used an app with which customers could call our services on demand. To order a full tank, you could ‘tap up’ in the app to start the order. Hence the name TapUp.
-
When was Shell TapUp founded?
Shell TapUp was established in July 2016. In the first year we focused on the development of physical services; from May 2017 we conducted the first pilot in the consumer market. This caught the attention of the business market, which meant that from 2018 we fully focused on supplying fuels to the business market.
HOW IT WORKS
-
How does Shell TapUp work?
One of our cars, for example Duco or Pete, will arrive at your location at the agreed time. This can be daily, every two days or weekly. We agree in advance on how our driver will gain access to your vehicles / fuel valves and at which safe place on your premises the refuelling will take place. You won’t notice it when we come by, except that your vehicles are full again to get back on the road! You will receive a transaction report and a monthly invoice.
-
What type of vehicles do you use?
Shell TapUp uses 2 types of vehicles, namely our electric vehicles such as Chuck and our company vehicles such as Duco. Our electric vehicles are particularly well suited for deliveries in the city center, while the company vehicles are allowed on the motorway and as a result can also reach the distribution centers and other business locations. Because we mainly serve large business customers, our fleet now consists entirely of company vehicles.
-
Is it possible to do a pilot?
Of course, that’s possible. We understand that you first want to see if there is a match between Shell TapUp and your operation. Whether our solution works for your employees. That is why we offer a no-obligation pilot for a duration of 2 months. During those 2 months we get to know each other and improve our daily service. We conduct research into the experiences and user-friendliness of your employees with Shell TapUp.
SHELL TAPUP AND SUSTAINABILITY
-
How sustainable is Shell TapUp?
Shell TapUp’s mission is to accelerate the energy transition by making alternative fuels available at an accelerated pace.
For customers, this means that we:
- Avoid: avoid driving those extra miles to the forecourt
- Reduce: reduce your CO₂ emissions by having the fleet filled with an alternative fuel
- Compensate: compensate the remaining emissions through Shell carbon offsetting programme
-
What is CO₂ compensation?
With CO2 compensation programs, forest projects are measured how much CO2 has been absorbed. The project receives a certificate with a unique serial number for every tonne of CO2. This serial number is assigned to the party that compensates for CO2 emissions. The unique number prevents a certificate from being used multiple times.
-
How can I offset all my CO₂ emissions?
Offsetting your CO2 emissions at Shell TapUp works in 3 steps:
- Every time Shell TapUp refuels your cars, we keep track of the fuel consumption per vehicle.
- We calculate the CO2 emissions that are linked to this consumption.
- We compensate the CO2 emissions at the end of the year with various certified CO2-compensation projects around the world. One of these projects is the Kasigau Corridor Project in Kenya (see explanation below).
-
Why does Shell TapUp offset its CO₂ emissions?
Shell TapUp is also a logistics company that manages its own fleet. By participating in Shell’s Nature Based Solutions program, we also make our own activities more sustainable and, in this way, meet the ever-increasing demands of internal and external stakeholders when it comes to environmental performance.
-
What is Shell's Nature Based Solutions programme?
Shell is involved in CO2 compensation projects around the world. The projects are part of Shell’s Nature Based Solutions program and are certified by the VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) and CCB (Climate, Community & Biodiversity) standard. VCS is the most widely used standard for CO2 compensation projects worldwide. The CCB standard ensures that projects also support local communities and preserve or improve biodiversity.
-
What is an example of a CO₂-compensation project?
One of the CO2-compensation projects is the Kasigau Corridor Project in Kenya. This project, which is being carried out together with the local community, has protected 200,000 hectares of forest and has already planted more than 60,000 new trees.
This project and other forest protection and reforestation projects not only help to reduce CO2 emissions, but also help to create new jobs. The income from the sale of CO2 credits is used to build schools and improve access to water.
WHAT IT COSTS
-
How much does Shell TapUp cost?
The costs for using Shell TapUp can be divided into 2 parts, namely fuel and service fee. The fuel price and discount are determined on the basis of the total fuel volume that is purchased each year. The service costs depend on the number of vehicles that we come to refuel per visit and how often and at what time we visit. In short, if you want an indication of the costs for your organisation, please contact us.
-
How long does it take to implement Shell TapUp at my organisation?
The answer: very little time. If you decide to work with Shell TapUp, all you have to do is decide within which time frame you want us to visit and which fuel type you want to have delivered. We take care of the rest. Easy right?! Our Customer Success Manager ensures a streamlined onboarding of your location in our delivery schedule.
-
Are there different rates for evenings or weekends?
Yes, there are different rates for evening or weekend deliveries. Because every situation and location is different, it is best to have a quick scan carried out by our Sales department for a good estimate.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US
-
Which fuel types does Shell TapUp deliver?
We started our service with the delivery of gasoline and Shell FuelSave Diesel. But soon after we were able to add Shell GTL Fuel, AdBlue and HVO.
Our goal is to make more and more alternative fuels available to our customers. Are you interested in a certain type of fuel? Let us know and we can find out if we can deliver this to you.
-
Is Shell TapUp able to refuel all my vehicles?
When we come, it is usually to refuel your entire fleet in one service window. We do not wait until all the tanks are empty before they are refilled but ensure that there is sufficient fuel in the tank every day so that your fleet can stay on the road.
-
What is the contract period?
If you want to use the services of Shell TapUp, we first work together in a trial period. During this period, you test our services and we also gain insight into how we can best serve your fleet. Both satisfied? Then we sign a longer-term agreement with each other.
USING OUR SERVICE
-
How does Shell TapUp gain access to the fuel valves of my fleet?
- The fuel valve of the vehicle is locked with the central lock. The driver first places the fuel valve ajar and then closes the vehicle. This way we can reach the filling opening and the vehicle is safe.
- The fuel valve of the vehicle opens from the inside with a lever or button. First open the fuel cover and then close the vehicle. This way the car is safe, and we can still reach the filling opening.
- The fuel cover of the vehicle can always be opened, but you need the vehicle key to remove the fuel cap. Open the fuel cap and try to remove the key. Is that not possible? Then we look together at the options to gain access to the vehicles, for example by giving a runner of the fuel caps to our driver.
-
What is the most important advantage for a fleet manager to use Shell TapUp?
The most important advantage for you as a fleet manager (or operations manager of course!) is that refuelling process can be outsourced which means that it saves your employee’s time. You save time and detours, which will save you money. Your drivers can now focus on their core task.
-
What is the most important advantage for a sustainability manager to use Shell TapUp?
The most important advantage for you as a sustainability manager (or buyer of course!) is that you get miles off the road because the entire fleet does not have to drive to the service station. With Shell TapUp, you also get the possibility to switch to an alternative fuel that, for example, reduces local emissions.
-
Is there a minimum number of vehicles?
There is no minimum number of vehicles; we do notice that our service is really interesting for companies where the fleet has more than 8 vehicles and has to be refuelled several times a week.
-
Which facilities do I have to arrange to make use of Shell TapUp?
You just have to contact us; we will do the rest. We perform a location assessment to determine the safest spot for refuelling. After, we will prepare a work agreement together about the times we visit and how we will get access to the vehicles.
-
If I switch to Shell TapUp, what do I do with our fuel cards?
We are happy to help you by taking over the entire refuelling process. The end result is that all vehicles are always sufficiently full to stay on the road without having to refuel in the meantime. This allows you to cancel the fuel card for the locations where we serve you.
-
Is delivering fuels on location safe?
Our Shell TapUp vehicles and the TapUp Team meet all safety requirements. As a result, we can guarantee that we deliver the fuel safely.
